DMOZ still matter in SEO rankings
It's a great link to have but not necessary to rank #1. We see a lot of websites ranking in tough niches with millions of results - without the dmoz listing or
Let just say that:
every link is a link is a link and link from DMOZ is good as any but...
don't kill yourself to get one.

RE: DMOZ still matter in SEO rankings
I think a link from DMOZ is simply a "Good Link" and nothing special. I agree that its nice to have a site listed in there, but traffic is minimal and really, i think its become more "A Badge Of Honour" due to the obsession that many webmasters have about having a site listed in there.

I believe that Google still use it as a minute part of their algo, but certainly it does not generate the attention from Google that it did in 1999 - 2004.

It should be remembered that prime intention was never to promote sites, but to catalogue the websites for ease of use by "net surfers".

In my opinion, DMOZ was very popular in the past and was very helpful in SEO. But now it has become as good as any other link. Still it is wise to use DMOZ as some search engines give it preference over other links.

There are a lot of site out there rank better without linking to DMOZ, I think that as long as you targeted well your keywords and link to relevant site you can rank better. I think DMOZ is not that influential unlike before.

RE: DMOZ still matter in SEO rankings
THere is no doubt that submitting and being accepted into strong directories can only help your PR. Many of the small ones are merely link farms, but directories such as DMOZ, having been around 10 years or more, provide valuable link juice and assist both PR and serps.
